The rector and vice president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Enrique Marquezdelivered this Tuesday the 16th a proposal to the plenary session of that body to regulate the exercise of the vote abroad, with a view to the presidential elections of 2024.
Márquez, through a message on Twitter, said that it is now up to the CNE to decide on a date to discuss this matter. “We continue to work,” he asserted.
A few days ago, together with the rector Roberto Picón, he indicated that they were working on proposals for regulations and procedures that facilitate the updating of the electoral registry and the exercise of the vote by Venezuelans abroad.

The proposal of party UPP 89 contemplates the normalization and updating of the Electoral Registry, the automation of the act of voting, citizen verification and electoral witnesses; while the VOTE group proposes various technological updates to address the civil rights of the diaspora.
The former rector of the CNE Andrés Caleca, VOTE representative, recalled that the Constitution obliges the State to guarantee that citizens exercise their right to vote and, in this case, the body was established to facilitate elections. If that has not been done so far, he has said, it is due to a lack of political will.
From other platforms such as the civil association Súmate, the need for the RE to be updated has been denounced. The organization has recalled in advancing this year that there are more than 10 million Venezuelans who would need to register or update their residence and voting center data inside and outside the country, from April 20, 2022 to December 2024, date on which the next elections should be held.
