Economic activity up 0.69% in June

Global Barometers Signal Improvement in Early 2022

The Brazilian economic activity registered a high of 0.69% in June, compared to May, according to data released today (15) by the Central Bank (BC). This data is seasonally adjusted, that is, it disregards differences in holidays and fluctuations in economic activity, typical of certain times of the year.Economic activity up 0.69% in June

In comparison with June last year, the indicator grew by 3.09%. In the second quarter of 2022, the increase was 0.57% (seasonally adjusted result), compared to the previous quarter. In comparison with the same quarter last year, the index increased by 2.96%.

Year-to-date, the Central Bank’s Economic Activity Index (IBC-Br) has accumulated a high of 2.24%. In 12 months, the IBC-Br registered an expansion of 2.18%.

The growth comes after two straight months of retreat. According to revised data, in May, in comparison with April, the indicator fell by 0.26%. In April, in comparison with March, the IBC-Br showed a decrease of 0.52%.

The IBC-Br is a way of evaluating the evolution of Brazilian economic activity and helps the BC to make decisions about the basic interest rate, the Seliccurrently set at 13.75% per year.

The indicator incorporates information on the activity level of the three sectors of the economy: industry, commerce and services and agriculture, in addition to the volume of taxes.
