Omar Candia justified the lack of works due to the decrease in resources due to COVID-19

The solemn session for the 482 anniversary of Arequipa was held this August 14 from 10:30 am in the Municipal theater. the county mayor Omar Candia Aguilarin his speech, justified that he could not do various works due to the decrease in resources due to the pandemic.

“It is unknown to no one that we have had a quite complicated and atypical management period, with the pandemic, the political crisis and the decrease in resources to carry out works as a result of the suspension of profits from Caja Arequipa,” he said.

In addition, he pointed out that all it forced him to have a different rhythm in the execution of works and campaign proposals. “We had to prioritize and assume leadership for more than a year and a half in the actions of the health emergency, the economic reactivation and the adaptation of services to the city to the new conditions,” he clarified.

Also, he mentioned that his political opponents ignore this situation and demand results as if normal times had elapsed in his government.

However, the mayor of Arequipa also shared the good results of his management, including relaunching the Integrated Transportation System (SIT), in which the concession contracts were resumed without any economic prejudice for the municipality; the advance of electric tram and the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan. He affirmed that, for the first time, Arequipa will have a comprehensive vision of urban mobility articulated to its Metropolitan Development Plan.
