Delegates ofl United Union of Education Workers (SUTE) of Mendoza They decided this Saturday in a plenary session to call a 96-hour strike, the realization of which will be subject to the result of the joint negotiations that will take place this week with the provincial authorities, according to union sources.

In the meeting that took place this Saturday at the Imperial Theater, in the Mendoza town of Maipú, about eight kilometers from the provincial capital, 180 congressmen participated, who unanimously decided on a suspended 96-hour strike and announced the measure will become effective in case of not reaching an agreement in the negotiation that was convened for next Thursday, June 18 by the provincial government.

“The plenary session had a massive participation of the 18 departmental plenary sessions, in which the majority approved the 96-hour strike that remains on hold until the joint meeting with the Government,” explained the head of SUTE, Carina Sedano in statements to the press.

During the union meeting two motions were discussed: one for a strike for 96 hours and another one that proposed to call for a cessation of tasks for an indefinite period, but finally the first initiative was imposed by the unanimous vote of the union representatives.

“It will now depend on the provincial government whether or not we activate the force measure for 96 hours. We want to analyze what the official proposal is,” said the union leader.

The provincial executive announced last Friday that this week the round of negotiations and salary review begins with the different state unions, as a result of the inflation rates announced on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec).

Last week the provincial government offered a 44% wage increase that some state unions in conflict accepted, such as the Mendoza Health Professionals Union (Ampros).

Meanwhile, two other unions did not accept said proposal, so the Executive decided to apply the increase by decree.

This decision, to grant the increase by decree, led the SUTE to a 72-hour strike in all the Mendoza schools that ended on Wednesday with a massive mobilization in front of the Provincial Government House, which was accompanied by the local sections of the CGT and the CTA, and various social organizations.
