To an express question, Caballero stressed that “citizens can leave with peace of mind. We are not going to allow Tijuana residents to be lacerated, and no criminal group is going to tell us whether or not to go out on the street, no one is going to restrict our freedom, that is why I am here to show my face.”
He also stated that according to information from the state prosecutor’s office, the group that caused the simultaneous fires in four of six Baja California municipalities is the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The mayor of Ensenada, Armando Ayala Robles, agreed with her, who maintained that the CJNG was the author of the violent acts to exert pressure on the authorities.
In a statement, the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection reported that three detainees – two men and one woman – were “members” of that criminal group.
Regarding the balance of the violent acts, he explained that there are about 20 detainees, 12 of them in Tijuana, including some women, as well as 12 burned vehicles.
In addition, he announced that at least 3,000 elements of the National Guard (GN) and about 2,000 elements of the Municipal Citizen Security and Protection Secretariat (SSPCM), will be deployed throughout the state for the protection of citizens.
And he guaranteed the population their safety and the reopening of businesses; “We are going to be in preventive matters,” he stressed.
This Saturday, businesses, schools, workplaces, sports and cultural centers closed or suspended their activities in Tijuana after the violent events on Friday night.
