According to information from the Ministry of Health (Minsa), steps are being taken to purchase vaccines against the monkeypox or monkey virus through the Revolving Fund of the Pan American Health Organization.
The National Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation, Eduardo Ortega Barría, explained to the newspaper La Prensa that the doses will be purchased to address any emergency that may arise with this disease, adding that the vaccines will be applied to specific groups, since for containing the disease does not require universal inoculation.
Ortega indicated that a pre-exposure vaccination can be carried out on health professionals, such as laboratory technicians and personnel who must handle cases that require hospitalization, who would be vaccinated in advance.
Regarding post-exposure vaccination, it would be for close contacts of people, confirmed or suspected cases, who can be vaccinated the first four days after contact to avoid the disease; There is even the option of vaccinating two weeks after contact because this is a virus that has a long incubation period, up to 21 days.
