Petro appoints Armando Benedetti Colombian ambassador to Venezuela

The President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced on Thursday the appointment of Armando Benedetti as the new ambassador of the New Granada nation to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

“I have decided in response to the Venezuelan government, who has appointed an ambassador who will have the responsibility of reestablishing relations between the two countries, to appoint Armando Benedetti as Ambassador of Colombia to Venezuela, waiting for the approval of that government,” Petro announced.

Likewise, the Colombian president pointed out that Benedetti will have the task of normalizing relations between the two countries. “Restore the institutionality that has existed for decades so that the two sister peoples can protect their rights, guarantee their freedoms and ensure that between Venezuela and Colombia wealth can be built for both peoples.”

For his part, the new ambassador appointed by the Colombian government to Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, wrote on his Twitter account that “no imaginary line will ever separate us as brothers.”

He also predicted working for the more than 8,000 Colombians who live on the border.

The president of the Republic, Nicholas Maduroannounced this Thursday the appointment of Félix Plasencia as ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Republic of Colombia.

“I want to announce that the former foreign minister, Félix Placencia, who was ambassador to the People’s Republic of China and who is today president of the International Investment Center, I have appointed him as the next ambassador to the Republic of Colombia,” Maduro said.

The Head of State reported that the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry sent the letters of approval of the new Colombian government led by President Gustavo Petro.
