The pharmaceutical Johnson & Johnson (J&J) announced that it will withdraw from markets around the world from 2023 its talcum powder for babies, after the accusations that they assure that the product causes cancer since it contains asbestos.

The product “Johnson’s Baby Powder” will no longer be sold worldwide from 2023detailed the company in a statement and highlighted that it will make the transition of the entire range of talcum powder products for babies so that they have a cornstarch-based composition.

We continually evaluate and optimize our portfolio to better position the business for long-term growth. This transition will help simplify our product offerings, deliver sustainable innovation and meet the needs of our consumers.

The pharmaceutical company maintained its position on the safety of its product, maintaining that it does not contain asbestos and that it does not cause cancer, as thousands of Americans have been denouncing the company, reported the DPA agency.

In 2017, a Los Angeles court sentenced the pharmaceutical company to pay up to 417 million dollars (354 million euros at the time) considering that the group was responsible for terminal ovarian cancer diagnosed in a 63-year-old woman.

On that occasion, the company was condemned for not adequately warning of the risk associated with the use of its products with talc.
