MIAMI, United States. — The Government of Spain ratified this Wednesday the political dialogue and economic cooperation with the Cuban regime during a meeting held between the Foreign Minister of the Island Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and the ambassador of the Iberian country in Havana, Ángel Martín Peccis.
The meeting was reported on Twitter by Rodríguez Parrilla, who also thanked Spain for the humanitarian aid sent after the catastrophe at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.
“I held a meeting with the Spanish ambassador, Ángel Martín Peccis. We ratify the will to continue developing bilateral political dialogue and economic, trade and cooperation ties. I was grateful for sending medicines and medical supplies due to the accident in Matanzas,” the Cuban regime’s foreign minister reported on Twitter.
The shipment of medicines and medical supplies to Cuba was promoted by the European Union to care for the people affected by the fire in Matanzas.
The aid was channeled after the activation by the Cuban regime after the activation of the Civil Protection Mechanism.
So far, the Cuban authorities have confirmed the death of three people: Juan Carlos Santana Garrido (60 years old), First Operator of the Extinction Team of the Special Command for the Protection of the Camilo Cienfuegos Refinery; Michel Rodríguez Román (20), who was completing his military service in the 3rd Fire Department of the Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport; and Elier Correa Aguilar (24), Company Chief of Fire Command 3 of the Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport.
A total of 14 people, mostly firefighters and SMA recruits, are still missing.
