The Federal Police (PF) launched Operation Beco da Pecunia today (11) which investigates embezzlement of federal resources from the Unified Health System (SUS) and from the Fund for Maintenance and Development of Basic Education (Fundeb), in Alagoas.
In all, 162 agents of the corporation executed 35 search and seizure warrants in six municipalities in Alagoas – Maceió, Rio Largo, São Sebastião, Messias, Palmeira dos Índios and Paripueira – and in São Paulo. It was also determined the blocking of movable and immovable assets in the amount of R$ 12 million to guarantee reimbursement to the public coffers.
According to the investigation, the deviations would have occurred in contracts and payments, in the amount of R$ 20 million, made by the municipality of Rio Largo in favor of two companies for the purchase of construction material and parts and services for vehicles.
According to the PF, between 2019 and 2022, 245 cash withdrawals were made from the accounts of the companies that received the funds. To circumvent the identification by the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf), individual withdrawals of R$ 49 thousand were carried out. Withdrawals above R$50,000 are automatically identified by the agency.
In addition to the search warrants, the Justice determined the removal of public agents involved in the investigation and the prohibition of new transfers of resources to the mentioned companies.
The operation had the help of the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) in Alagoas.
