FA Senator, Eduardo Brenta.

In the last hours, Senator Juan Sartori (National Party) said that he will file an appeal of unconstitutionality against the Crystal Law, considering that in article 12 it requires not only the public official to present the affidavit, but also his spouse or concubine

As a result, the senator of the Broad Front Eduardo Brenta stated that there is an urgent need to enforce the current Law to demand the affidavit of Juan Sartori.

“The appeal of unconstitutionality that Sartori raises surprises us, because this Law was voted unanimously 24 years ago in the government of the then President of the Republic, Julio María Sanguinetti,” Brenta remarked.

He added that the Law establishes that public officials, in this case Juan Sartori, “must submit their sworn statement, which, in the case of the white legislator, has been submitted incompletely, as reported by the Board of Transparency and Public Ethics (JUTEP) and, in the second instance, you must submit the affidavit of your spouse.

Corruption

He added: “In any case, if it were true, I would exonerate the spouse, but not her own statement, which is absolutely incomplete. We are talking about an act of corruption, of a norm that prevents corruption.”

Brenta questioned the “persistence of Sartori on evading responsibilityd, which, in addition, is accompanied by a “absence of decision-making by the Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón, who should have operated by applying the Law and withholding the percentage of salary corresponding to Senator Sartori.”

Neither the National Party nor its Directory has spoken. “No action has been taken in this regard.”

“If this norm is modified, no public official will declare anything at all and Uruguay will see its international image compromised in what has to do with acts of corruption that may occur in any area of government management, ”warned the Frente Amplio parliamentarian.

He said that in the first place the current Law must be applied and then the unconstitutionality appeal raised by Sartori will be seen, which could be dismissed by the Supreme Court of Justice.

Salary withholding and inability to be a candidate again

Brenta announced to TV Ciudad, that he will present to the Broad Front and the other political parties with parliamentary representation, a modification of article 12 of the Crystal Law, in the sense that the legislator who does not comply with the obligation to make the sworn declaration as corresponding “his salary is reduced by half and, in addition, his candidacy for the next Legislature is prevented.”

little transparent

For his part, the deputy Gustavo Olmos, said: “Sartori is a multimillionaire who files an unconstitutionality appeal to avoid a 50% discount on his salary by not presenting his wife’s affidavit of assets, as established by the Law for those who We occupy high-ranking public positions. Little transparent.
