Cortizo signs decree that authorizes the 30% reduction for 170 medicines

The rule adopted by the Government takes as a basis for the discount, the price established as of June 30, 2022 and seeks to guarantee medicines at cheaper prices for all Panamanians.

President Laurentino Cortizo signed Executive Decree No. 17 on Wednesday afternoon, which reduces the price of medicines established for consumers by 30% and which will take effect on August 15, 2022 for a period of six months, extendable. .

Executive Decree No. 17 of Wednesday, August 10, 2022, which establishes this measure, was promulgated on Wednesday night in the Official Gazette.

The rule adopted by the Government takes as a basis for the discount, the price established as of June 30, 2022 and seeks to guarantee medicines at cheaper prices for all Panamanians.

The application of this discount occurs after President Cortizo approved this Tuesday the recommendation of the technical table of medicines to apply a 30% discount to 170 medicines on the exceptional or emergency list, and additionally maintain the 20% discount to the retired.

The president’s decision came after the technical table for medicines, chaired by the Vice President of the Republic and Minister of the Presidency, José Gabriel Carrizo, recommended last week to President Cortizo to invoke article 106 of Law 1 of Medicines of 2001 to create a subcommittee in which the drugs included in the emergency list were determined.
