In 2012, a citizen was hit by a stray bullet, supposedly from a weapon owned by a police officer who was participating in a party at a house in La Paloma, Rocha. The man was seriously injured and remains physically disabled.
“After the shooting, the police closed everything, they did not preserve the scene, they searched for the scabbard without success, the weapon disappeared, and the victim denounces that Charles Carrera tried to buy his silence by illegally interning him in the Police Hospital and paying him 20,000 for three years,” he denounced. the host of the journalistic program Santo y Seña, Ignacio Álvarez.
Carrera argued that the social organizations IELSUR and SERPAJ requested that the man and his family be restrained and that was what the Ministry of the Interior did at the time, giving him food tickets and placing him in the Police for his rehabilitation. He assured that everything is a political operation to delegitimize his actions and affect his public image.
In the last few hours, Minister Heber met with white legislators. After the meeting, Heber explained how he became aware of the facts.
“When I was in La Paloma, I had an interview with a person who unfortunately was left in a wheelchair due to a situation that, in the opinion of his family, was not properly clarified and that had been poorly investigated. I promised to carry out a reassessment of the investigation of the case that the police had done at that time, ”he commented.
As a result, Heber commissioned the Internal Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior to reassess the evidence and it was determined that “there is evidence of a crime and, therefore, Internal Affairs filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office, because it understands that there may be evidence of a crime. It is not an attitude that comes with an order from the minister.”
There is no political persecution
For his part, Senator Gandini said that “if the event were a political persecution as Senator Charles Carrera said, the FA has to question Minister Heber, because this needs a lot of transparency”
“This is not persecution. This stems from a family complaint to the Criminal Justice in Rocha and Internal Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior and from there to the Prosecutor’s Office, therefore it is not the political authorities that make the decisions, and it was made public because of an investigation. journalistic and not because of an action by Minister Heber”, remarked the nationalist legislator.
Gandini also stated that caring for the patient at the Police Hospital “does not comply with the law, because said care center is only intended for police officers and their families.”
