Maduro promises aid to care for those affected by the rains in 10 states

Maduro calls on his militancy to "twist the arm of bureaucratism"

Nicolás Maduro guaranteed, after an uneventful telephone contact with José Vicente Rangel Ávalos, financial support for the Mayor’s Office of the municipality of Sucre (Miranda) to proceed with the dredging of the Guaire River, whose sedimentation caused flooding in three sectors of Petare. The Venezuelan president Nicholas Maduro He referred to the rains of the last 48 hours and the effects in 10 states of the country. He promised various aid, including river dredging, road improvement and delivery of goods, to serve the more than 500 affected families.

Capital District, Vargas, Miranda, Barinas, Zulia, Cojedes, Mérida, Táchira, Aragua and Delta Amacuro were the states that suffered the most damage due to rainfall. In particular, he referred to the overflow of the Socopó River and called Governor Sergio Garrido’s attention.

Minister Arreaza said that in Socopó nine families completely lost their homes. He further stated that 53 were in a shelter activated in one of the schools in the area. “Civil Protection tells us that a retaining wall was broken, close to one of the houses with total loss, and we are waiting for the waters to go down to attend to it.”

From Caracas, Maduro also promised, after an uneventful telephone contact with José Vicente Rangel Ávalos, financial support so that the Mayor’s Office of the Sucre municipality (Miranda) proceeds with the dredging of the Guaire River, whose sedimentation caused flooding in three sectors of Petare.

For his part, the governor of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, reported that the rains particularly affected three municipalities (Fernández Feo, Capacho Viejo and Rubio), which caused damage to the road, landslides and affected 140 families.

The mayor of Libertador (Capital District), Carmen Meléndez, said that 43 families were taken to shelters due to the rains in several parishes, including El Junquito. “I have a project on the Caraballo ravine, which is the most affected, to serve the population that lives nearby.”

While the governor of Vargas state, José Alejandro Terán, said that 127 homes were affected by the rains in that state, in addition to landslides on the roads to Colonia Tovar and Puerto Cruz. “There is a culture of prevention and people quickly evacuated their homes when they saw the flooding of the rivers.”

“This town is not dead, this town is not alone, this town has someone to attend to it,” Maduro asserted.

Maduro predicts investment

According to Nicolás Maduro, during a “productive day”, Venezuela produces more than 80% of the food demanded by the population. “We have a scientific method to move forward, building.”

He also asserted that an offer is ready in the country, which has already been communicated to at least a dozen countries and investors, to invest in the agro-productive system. “Venezuela is going to become a food producing and exporting power and we will no longer be dependent on oil.”

Various sectors have criticized the Maduro offer to other countries, especially the alleged transfer to the Islamic Republic of Iran of one million hectares for planting rice. The Venezuelan government has not made an opinion on the matter, although from the Vice Ministry of Economic Affairs of that country they assured the operation.

While the Oil Minister, Tarek El Aissami, said that Pequiven guarantees the production of agrofertilizers for the entire agricultural sector of the country and, in addition, pointed out that “they are ready” for the export of urea.
