The Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP) reported that it is investigating and analyzing the situation of a group of 222 companies, whose sworn statements for the Income Tax for the 2021 period were presented with an amount of zero pesos in the determined tax, according to reported the tax agency.
The AFIP pointed out that this set of companies represent a third of the most important universe of taxpayers in the country and, according to official data, “153 of them filed in the same condition during the last three fiscal periods.”
The AFIP stressed that “among these companies, there are companies whose activity is financial intermediation, the food industry and the exploitation of mines and quarries”, while considering that “this situation is part of a global problem that is being analyzed by organizations such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), where companies tend to pay a minimum tax of 15%”.
The agency emphasized that “from the analysis of all the sworn statements of the companies filed with the agency, it is noted that the average payment of income tax on total taxable income does not exceed 3 percent.”
Finally, and by way of example, the tax agency explained that “to take the dimension of the problem, the following comparison is valid: the set of human persons who present sworn statements of earnings pay an effective rate of 16% on the total income taxed”.
