The work of the cartographic update in Cochabamba will begin at the end of September and early October. On the other hand, a space for the diffusion of the census ballot will be enabled. These were two of the four agreements of the three Cochabamba institutions with the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and the Government, meeting yesterday in the Valluna capital.

“Right now we are in the pre-census stage and the main activity is cartographic updating and the process of cartographic updating within the city of Cochabamba. In the other municipalities it would start towards the end of September or the beginning of October”, confirmed the Minister of Planning, Sergio Cusicanqui, at the end of the meeting.

When asked about the status of the cartographic update in the country and the percentage of progress, Cusicanqui only said that the works were carried out in the municipalities of Cobija, Trinidad, Oruro, Potosí, Santa Cruz and Riberalta, that is, urban areas and remote areas are still missing. He did not specify how much progress was made.

The Mayor’s Office of Cochabamba and the Association of Autonomous Municipal Governments of Cochabamba (Amdeco) promised to send proposals for updatingwhich will be considered and evaluated by the INE. While the entity will review the documents delivered by the Universidad Mayor de San Simón and their role in assisting in the field work.

The presence of Vice Ministers Álvaro Ruiz and David Guachalla was observed in this event., in addition to the minister Cusicanqui. While in Oruro, only the census director, Martha Oviedo, was present. The social organizations of Oruro criticized the absence of the authorities and INE technicians, who only appeared virtually.

The economist and representative of the Chamber of Commerce, Joshua Bellot, described the department as disrespectful, since access to civil society organizations was also not allowed, same scenario that was repeated in Cochabamba.

Another of the relevant agreements is also the program called ‘Open Institute’, which will serve to consult the census ballot according to the established schedule.

The mayor of Cochabamba, Manfred Reyes Villa, said that no determination was made at this technical tablebut there were advances to direct a credible and professional process.

“We have made the decision of these technical meetings with our technical team. I believe that we are making progress, it is not that we have made a decision here, but that we are advancing in socialization, so that a fully professional census is carried out,” Reyes Villa told the media.

Doubts about census advances are not yet settled since it is unknown when the dissemination of the census schedule will begin, if the hiring, the purchase of mobile devices, the training of personnel, the questions of the census ballot and others have already been carried out.
