President Jair Bolsonaro signed today (20) a decree establishing the National Plan to Combat Feminicide (PNEF). In a statement, Palácio do Planalto informed that the plan seeks to integrate government actions and policies in various sectors to combat and prevent deaths resulting from female victims. The decree will be published tomorrow on Official Diary of the Union.
In addition to reinforcing national policies to combat all forms of femicide, the decree established other goals. The text provides for the articulation of the network for combating violence against women; the promotion of actions that make society aware of violence against women; the expansion of the possibilities of denunciation; improving information management on violence against women; and the institution of accountability, education and monitoring policies for perpetrators of violence against women.
On the victims’ side, the plan aims to guarantee rights and promote comprehensive, humanized and non-revictimizing assistance to women in situations of violence. The plan intends to extend the same actions to indirect victims and orphans.
The plan provides for the articulation between different sectors of the Executive Power (education, health, social assistance, public security), as well as actors from the Justice System, the Legislative Power and civil society. “Through cooperation between different agencies and powers, the aim is to guarantee the implementation of the complete cycle of public policy and the integrality of actions to combat femicide”, concluded the note from the Palácio do Planalto.
