"The measurements on the right show a great ignorance of what happens in the school"

"The measurements on the right show a great ignorance of what happens in the school"

“The State is responsible for guaranteeing the school, books, computers, heating, but never from the punishment, which is what always has the right hand”, said Sileoni. / Photo: Diego Izquierdo.

The General Director of Culture and Education of Buenos Aires, Alberto Sileoni, affirmed that “the measures taken by the right are provided with great ignorance of what happens in the school”, when referring to the decision adopted by the Government of the city of Buenos Aires to first reduce and then cancel if the situation persists, the social assistance that families receive in the event that their sons and daughters lose school regularity.

There is always a border that is crossed with the gimmicky, bombastic announcement, certain blows of effect and some candidacy that is crossed behind. There are never children or schools in the school advertisements of neoliberalism,” Sileoni considered in statements made this morning to El Destape Radio.

The minister also spoke with Télam radio and opined that to the boys and girls “you have to go look for them as many times as the State deems necessary” and insisted that “that is the task of the State: to go look for them and if they are nominalized, it is a good time.”

Society needs kids to go to class without interruptions, that the boys, the girls, go to classes every day. That after the pandemic has been injured, we have to recover that virtuous routine of classes every day, reach 190 days, ”he remarked.

And he warned that if that does not happen, “never the way can be the punishmentit can never be the sanction, nor can it ever be the extortion of taking away any right”.

“The nominalization is not for the sanction, but precisely so that the State makes an effort and brings them back to school and that seems to me that it should not be discussed,” concluded Sileoni.

This Tuesday, the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, one of the presidential candidates of Together for Change in the face of next year’s elections, announced that he will control every two months the school regularity of the sons and daughters of the people who receive the social assistance corresponding to the Ciudadanía Porteña program and, based on that, it will determine whether these families will continue to receive 100% of the social assistance or if the amount they receive within that benefit is subtracted as “additional per child”. If this situation persists, progress will be made with the removal of the benefit, as determined by the Buenos Aires Executive.

In that sense, Sileoni analyzed that although “there is a problem with the boys’ attendance, exacerbated after the pandemic”, what “is desperately needed is that they go to class every day even if it rains, thunders or the world falls”.

“I keep asking families for that. But, once again, we do not agree with medicine, a punitive, sanctioning and extortionary path. They are sanctioning students, deepening a problem,” Sileoni said.

In this framework, the minister expressed that it is necessary to “reinforce learning, work to make a school more attractive and challenging”, and pointed out that “the State has to work to have a school in building conditions”.

He considered that “we must invite them and make them see that there is no destiny outside the school, or it is smaller and uncertain, but not since the sanction, which will not bring any solution, it is proven”, and stressed that “in the face of the threat, the The father will not tell the son ‘Look, if you are absent they will take the plan out of us’ and he will no longer be absent”.

On the other hand, he opined that “you don’t have to be very sharp to realize that they are talking to a part of their electorate and want to win their loyalty”, and highlighted that Together for Change “has a circumstance with the extreme right and, That’s why they do this juggling”.

Nor is the path ‘follow, follow’, the 500 faults. There are rules, the school is an institution run by adults and the rules must be followed responsibly. But the state cannot deepen a problem that can be solved elsewhere,” she concluded.
