Women are once again part of the Superior Court of Justice of La Rioja after 26 years, with the swearing in, this Monday, of the members Ana Karina Becerra and Gabriela Irina Asís, after the resignations of Gastón Mercado Luna and Camilo Farías Barrios.

The swearing in was led by the president of the Superior Court of Justice of La Rioja, Luis Brizuela, the governor Ricardo Quintela, the vice-governor, Florencia López, the members of the Court, Claudio Ana and Claudio Saúl, and other authorities of the province.

At the beginning of the act of assumption of the two judges, decrees 75/136 and 76/176 of the Riojan Chamber of Deputies were read, which established the appointment of Becerra and Asís as members of the Court, and Administrative Agreements 328 and 329, of the same Court, where members of the Council of the Magistracy became aware of these appointments.

Brizuela said that “It is a historical fact that, after 26 years, the glass ceiling that prevented women from accessing decision-making positions in the province was broken.”

“The women judges, María Buteler, appointed in 1976, and Juana Perazzo de la Vega, in 1995, were pioneers in integration. We owe these appointments to the governor who did everything in his power to make this happen.”

“It is a historical fact that, after 26 years, the glass ceiling that prevented women from accessing decision-making positions in the province was broken.”

“The appointments speak of right, equality, equity, that together, men and women, we can build the La Rioja that we deserve, where we all have our place, where we can all walk side by side together.”Luis Brizuela, President of the Tribunal

By last, the head of the Superior Court told the new judges: “any renovation helps us to improve, and I know that with your gaze you will help us to redefine this inclusive justice, this justice for all.”

In turn, Quintela said: “Today we are taking a very important step and it is the incorporation of the female gender at the highest levels of our justice, trying to generate the best conditions established by our Parity Law in La Rioja. We not only want we keep legislative parity, but we seek to incorporate it at all levels of the State. “

Karina Becerra said after the swearing in: “we are going to work together with my colleagues to improve the system, we are proposing an accusatory system to decompress the civil Chambers a bit.”

Finally, Becerra stressed that “a judicial reform and also a constitutional reform in our province are necessary.” Gabriela Asís also highlighted: “there is a lot to work on and to oxygenate justice. Our work axis has to do with giving an effective and efficient response to the people.”

“The gender perspective must be transversal in each one of the decisions. It is important to present an operational plan and based on that to be able to move forward,” he said at the end of the assumption of the Assisi magistrates.
