american tennis player Serena Williamswinner of 23 titles of Grand Slamannounced this Tuesday in a letter published in the magazine fashion that is ready for his retirement from tennis. His exit from the sport will occur in the coming weeks and he suggested that it will take place after the US Open.
The tennis player, who competes these days in the Toronto tournament, explained that she does not like to use the word withdrawn. Also, she pointed out that she is thinking in this “transition” which he prefers to describe as ‘evolution’.
“I am here to say that I am evolving from tennis to other things that are more important to me,” Serena Williams, 40, wrote.
His statements were also made known on his Instagram account where he posted a heartfelt message.
“There comes a time in life when we have to decide move in a different direction. It’s always a difficult time when you love something so much. My God, I really enjoy tennis. But now the countdown has begun.”
“I have to concentrate on being a mother, my spiritual goals and, finally, discover a different but exciting Serena. I am going to enjoy these next few weeks », she stressed.
Williams played on hard-court tennis for the first time in a year and a half on Monday at the tournament. Toronto WTA.
The American qualified to play the second round of the Canadian event after beating the Spanish Nuria Parrizas Díaz (N.57) by 6-3 and 6-4.
Williams thus obtained his first individual victory for fourteen months at Roland Garros 2021, a tournament in which he reached the fourth round.
