One of the facilities that the alleged human trafficking network dismantled in Operation Cattleya took advantage of was that the Dominican Republic is offered as a “sex paradise» and the tourism development that has occurred in the country in recent years, according to what is established by the Public ministry in the accusation against the group that is accused of using Colombian women to sexually exploit them.

The alleged network, made up of Colombians, Venezuelans and Dominicansused the Dominican Republic as an operational base for its crimes, bringing women from Colombia and Venezuela with job offers in tourist areas, especially in the eastern part.

The prosecution body also indicates that 80 women between the ages of 18 and 23 were rescued from the alleged criminal organization.

According to what was narrated by Public ministry In the request for coercive measures that consists of almost 200 pages, many of these women, because of the treatment they were given, fled from the hands of their perpetrators. The prices at which they were sold were between 3,000 and 7,000 pesos, depending on the offer.

The Public Ministry requested coercive measures against 15 members of the alleged criminal networkwhich operated in hotels in the National District, Bávaro and La Altagracia.

The accused

The names of the defendants that appear in the file are José Miguel Michel Guridis (Michel), Daniel Enrique Inirio Abréu (Daniel), José Alberto Soriano Rosario (Surgeon), Oscar Wicene, Melvin José Valentín Peguero, Cristina Virginia González Hernández, María Paula Murillo Vargas, Louis Marie Nephtalic and Oliver Arnaud Lewinski and /o Timothy William Case Renee.

They would also be part of the network Robert Lee, Eleuterio Paniagua Díaz, Angélica Jhoana Quintero Nino, Marie Fokina Achille (Flower and/or Flowers); Alejandro Arturo Batista Bustamante (The Cat); Ramón Altagracia Oviedo Castillo, Carlos Jhonatan Walwyn and Carlos Campusano Díaz (Carlos).

The Specialized Attorney against Illicit Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons (PETT), also requested that the case be declared complex.
