The movie daddy deserved the Lucía award for Best Fiction Feature Film of the XVI Gibara International Film Festivalwhich was held for four days in that city in the eastern province of Holguin, according to official media on the island.
The co-production by Algeria, France, Belgium and Qatar received the jury’s verdict in a category chaired by the Cuban director of cinema Arthur Soto. He was accompanied by the director Laura Cazador (Switzerland) and the director of the International Festival of Cinema Social, Tito Cañadas, (Spain), according to a report of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

During the final day, which also served to announce the call for the 2023 edition, prizes were awarded to the dead son, by Maysel Bello (Cuba), for Best Fiction Short Film; Y The criminalsby Serhat Karaaslan (France-Romania-Turkey), was awarded a Special Jury Prize while The bellby Eduardo del Llano (Cuba) was recognized with a Special Mention, reports the media.
In section Documentary film and Animation, evaluated by the Cuban director Belkis Vega, as president, the Spanish cultural manager Francisco Jiménez and the Mexican director Amaranta Díaz Carnero, it was decided to award the Reward for Best Documentary Feature Film ophirby Alexandre Berman and Oliver Pollet (France-UK).
At the same time, The communion of my cousin Andreaby Brandán Cerviño (Spain), received the award for Best Documentary Short Film, as well as Calamity. The childhood of Martha Jane Cannaryby Remi Chayé (France) was awarded as Best Animation, highlights the ACN.

Meanwhile, the animated documentary Bushby Ingrid Fadnes and Fabio Nascimento (Norway-Brazil), received a special mention from this jury.
The press jury, chaired by Rafael Grillo, along with Yudiannis González and Rubén Padrón Astorga, awarded Freedomby Clara Roquet (Spain) and the fiction short film The bell, by Eduardo del Llano (Cuba). In addition, collateral prizes were awarded by the Federation of Cuban Film Clubs and a Young Jury, established on this occasion at the Festival.
In a special way, this report points out, Cuban actor Jorge Martínez was awarded the Lucía Award for Male Performance, deserved at the 2018 event for his work in the film Last days in Havanaby Fernando Perez. Similarly, the imprint of the contemporary dance company Codanza was recognized for its 30 years of foundation.
The recently concluded edition also served to especially remember Nelson Rodríguez (1938-2020), National Awardl de Cine 2007, editor of the work of the deceased director of Humberto Solás and of important films of Cuban and Latin American cinematography.
The Gibara International Film Festival is conceived as a meeting that brings together different artistic manifestations around cinema, and in this new version the event featured scenic, musical, literary and theoretical events that reached squares, parks, communities and cultural centers of the city of Gibara.
Founded in 2003 by the renowned Cuban filmmaker Humberto Solás, with the idea of betting on a cinema that is poor in resources, but rich in aesthetic proposals, in its current international dimension, the Gibara Festival constitutes a commitment to the democratization of the audiovisual with the use of new technologies, assures the medium.
