Gustavo Petro finished consolidating his economic cabinet who will accompany him during his mandate. They are mostly academics and politicians. We tell you who it is.

José Antonio Ocampo-Minister of Finance
He holds a doctorate in economics from Yale University and has had a long academic and public sector career. In fact, he had already been in the Ministry of Finance, as well as in the DNP. After having filed the tax reform, he must ensure that the final document remains close to the objectives initially set.
Irene Vélez-Minister of Mines and Energy
To serve in this position, Gustavo Petro appointed the philosopher, geographer and researcher on environmental and social issues. She has researched issues regarding the impact of mercury contamination in mining contexts. She will be in charge of promoting the energy transition agenda and towards a ‘non-extractivist’ economy.
Mery Gutiérrez-ICT Minister
The lawyer from the Universidad de los Andes and a specialist in new information technologies was appointed the same day as the presidential inauguration. She was the manager of Programar TV for about 10 years and was on the splice commission. She will have challenges such as “taking the technological infrastructure where it has not arrived” and spectrum auctions.
Cecilia López-Minister of Agriculture
The economist from the Andes and specialist in demography has had an extensive political career. She was Colombia’s ambassador to the Netherlands and director of the DNP. She had previously been in the agricultural portfolio (1994-1996) and now she must face the challenge of an agrarian reform, as she had promised herself in the campaign.

Germán Umaña-Minister of Commerce
It will reach the portfolio of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the master’s degree in economics from the National University. He was director of the Colombo-Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce. He was a columnist for this newspaper and a professor of international economics at the National University. President Petro highlights among his challenges “turning to tourism.”
Guillermo Reyes-Minister of Transport
One of the latest appointments was lawyer and tax law expert Guillermo Reyes in the transport portfolio. He had already been in the executive before, as he was Deputy Minister of the Interior and Justice and participated in the Seventh Ballot movement. He was entrusted with the development of the country’s railways and rivers.
Gloria Inés Ramírez-Minister of Labor
One of the appointments that has generated the most controversy is that of Ramírez in the Labor portfolio. She is a specialist in the guarantee of labor rights and within her experience she has been a member of the CUT, president of Fecode and senator for the Polo Democrático. She will have to face the high figures of informality, as well as the age and gender gaps.

Catalina Velasco-Minister of Housing
Heading the Ministry of Housing will be Catalina Velasco, who is a “specialist in public policy and urban management.” She has also had an important step in the public sector, since she has been Secretary of Habitat in Bogotá and was Undersecretary of Planning and Finance. She will have to face the housing deficit (31%).
