Santo Domingo.- At the request of President Luis Abinader, the Government of Canada will provide the country with a special tunnel boring machine so that it can be used in a vertical excavation as a fourth way to rescue the two miners trapped in a mine tunnel located in Cerro Maimón, Monseñor Nouel province.
This was reported by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte, who reported that this Sunday a military plane with the machine will land in the national territory. He did not detail the specific place where the aircraft will land.
“It was achieved, thanks to the direct efforts of the President of the Republic, so that this special tunnel boring machine is also here so that all the equipment and experts required to extract the miners to the surface are available,” said the official. during a press conference in Bonao, where executives from the Dominican Mining Corporation (Cormidon), in charge of the operation of the mine, participated.

Since early Sunday morning, the Dominican Gregory Alexander Méndez Torres and the Colombian Carlos Yépez Ospina have been trapped in the tunnel obstructed by thousands of tons of earth. The national authorities are working on three other rescue routes.

For its part, the Cormidom reports that the rescue work continues at an accelerated rate and that at least one of the routes has been able to advance more than expected.
