After the Ministry of Health (MINSA) announced the existence of a second case of monkeypox, in Panama, the Director General of Health, Melva Cruz, assured that this patient is kept in isolation for 21 days and in strict monitoring in his residence by the Public Health team of the Metropolitan Region.

“The patient lives alone, has sufficient resources to do the 21-day isolation at home, and is also closely monitored by health personnel who will watch over his condition and guarantee that he has his medications and timely food” Cruz said.

He stressed that when the 21 days of isolation are completed, he will continue with a follow-up to evaluate his clinical and epidemiological condition.

According to Cruz, this patient received an evaluation from an infectious disease and otorhinolaryngology specialist who determined that the patient could be isolated within his residence (home isolation).

According to the epidemiological investigation that has been carried out, there is no close contact with the patient who has been detected with the disease, said Dr. Cruz.
