Former Anti-Corruption Prosecutor and specialist in the Accusatory Penal System (SPA), Roberto Moreno, talked about security in Panama: between organized crime, failed checkpoints and penalty agreements.

In the lawyer’s opinion, sentence agreements are excellent because they decongest justice and guarantee results.

He specified that the prosecution is overwhelmed, as are our security forces that are overwhelmed with the number of cases. “You file a complaint today, they call you in two years and they call you to trial in three, this is another option for settlements,” he said.

He stated that these agreements do not always seek jail, nor do they indicate that the person must always be free.
