64.5% of warehouse productsand fruits and vegetables released monthly by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), They increased in price in August.
According to data published by the Consumer Price Information System (SIPC), 131 items became more expensive compared to July. These products increased by an average of 2%.
Among the products whose average prices increased to a greater extent, the following stand out: fresh whole chicken (15.52%) which was sold on average at $152.57 per kilo, zucchini squash (11.53%) with an average price of $45.20 per kilo, a brand of deodorant which rose 7.85% to $166.7, a brand of toilet paper (8.57%) which stood at $120.6 and a brand of duct tape (11.12%)
The MEF survey included 598 commercial establishments (supermarkets, self-service stores and pharmacies) throughout the country. These companies provided information on the daily retail prices of 210 representative products/brands of 85 grocery items (food, beverages, cleaning and toiletries) and fruits and vegetables.
A group of products made up of 50 items, (24.6%) of the basket presents price reductions. On average, they were reduced by 1.40%, with the maximum reduction being 12.25%.
among the products whose average prices fell morestand out: a brand of 350 ml shampoo (-23.19%), American tomato (-21.31%), white potato (-15.06), a brand of white rice (-14.95%) and perita tomato (-13.64%).
Only 22 products (10.83% of the basket) kept their price unchanged.

What is SIPC
The SIPC contains daily prices of a group of important products in the expenditure of Uruguayan families in more than 460 supermarkets, self-service stores and pharmacies throughout the country, and tariff prices set by the Executive Power.
In 2016, prices began to be surveyed on a daily basis. The information is available in real time on the websiteprices.gub.uy. There is also a mobile price application (preciosgub), which can be downloaded free of charge for the iOS and Android operating systems.
