16 people are still missing in the Matanzas fire: what is known about them?

The latest official news published by Prensa Latina and other state media, reports that this Sunday the Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel met with the relatives of the disappeared.

According to the account of the Cuban Presidency on TwitterDíaz-Canel assured the relatives and close friends of the 16 disappeared persons that they had “full support” from his government.

According to the newspaper GironAt the meeting, the Cuban leader explained that he was working “hard” to clarify the situation of the missing persons as soon as possible, but that, in any case, it was impossible to access the scene of the incident due to the high temperatures.

“Everything seems to indicate that today the fire in the first tank is going to be put out to advance to the second and then enter,” the president told the relatives of the disappeared, this Sunday.

He also assured that “as soon as the information is available” it will be communicated and lamented the circumstance “so difficult that it hurts all Cubans.”

No other details of the meeting were released. The identity of the disappeared remains unknown.

Given the lack of information, rumors have spread on social networks and in Matanzas itself, where it is said that the disappeared were young people who were serving the Active Military Service and that they were sent to put out the flames.

Last Saturday, Díaz-Canel also called for priority attention to the injured and the relatives of the disappeared during a meeting in Matanzas, where he was accompanied by the highest authorities of the territory and the country.

On Twitter he wrote: “It is urgent to find the firefighters who disappeared in the explosion and care for their families. The situation is difficult, but we are also going to come out of this. #ForceMatanzas”.
