The president of Venezuela, Nicholas Madurocongratulated the new head of state, Gustavo Petro and invited him to rebuild ties between both countries.
“I extend my hand to the people of Colombia and to President Gustavo Petro to rebuild the brotherhood based on respect and love between peoples,” Maduro said through his Twitter account.
In addition, he affirmed that this new government represents a second opportunity that “we must take advantage of it for the good, happiness and peace“, referring to the diplomatic relations that they are bankrupt since February 23, 2019.
It should be noted that both governments announced that, once Petro took overwould be restored diplomatic relations at all levels starting with the appointment of ambassadors in each country.
