Historic turnout in the second round exceeded that of the 2020 plebiscite: more than 8 million voters voted

The plebiscite for the New Constitution had been installed as the election with the highest participation in Chile, managing to gather 50.95% of the electoral roll with 7,527,996 people. Then, in May, when municipal authorities, regional governors and conventional constituents were elected, it had a decrease to 43.35%. But after the ballot on Sunday, December 19, all forecasts fell short.

Participation increased in the first presidential round and reached 47.34% (7,115,590 people), however, the second round exceeded all expectations and, when Gabriel Boric is already positioned as the winner over José Antonio Kast, With 46,556 polling stations scrutinized out of a total of 46,140, corresponding to 99.82%, there have been 8,296,692 votes.

With this result, the last presidential elections in Chile managed to overcome the most massive vote in the last 30 years, which was the plebiscite for a New Constitution.

According to the official figures of the Servel, the electoral roll is 15,030,974 eligible voters. This data is broken down as follows: 14,959,956 voters within Chile; 71,018 voters abroad and 249,458 citizens disqualified from voting in this second round.

In the 2017 presidential elections, which gave President Sebastián Piñera the winner, more than 7 million Chileans turned out to vote (7,032,523) and the turnout at that time was 49% of the electoral roll.

And in the mega-elections of May 15 and 16, when four positions were elected, the turnout reached 43.35%, which translated into 6,458,760 voters of the 14,900,190 who were qualified.
