A genius of Brazilian art, multi-artist Caetano Veloso turns 80 this Sunday (7), working actively, with countless classics of popular music, award-winning works, with a past and a present that guarantee him admiration in the Brazil and internationally as one of the main artistic references in the country.
in the collection of Brazil Communication Company (EBC), there are shows, programs, special materials, reports and stories by Caetano, the Bahian from Santo Amaro da Purificação, the fifth child of Seu Zezinho and Dona Canô (nicknames of the artist’s parents). Among Caetano’s brothers is another great name in Brazilian art, the singer Maria Betânia (listen here to songs and stories of the artist)four years younger than he.
the multiartist (check the official website), who never stopped composing or singing, has a discography of 48 albums, in addition to writing books and producing movies. He has an intense schedule of shows in addition to other activities. An example that the man does not want to know about rest is that, on his birthday, this Sunday, he will perform a free show on internet platforms, as he announced on his Instagram page.
The artist’s life story is one of successes, but also made on a personality road. Who would say! It has been almost 55 years since the young Caetano Veloso entered the stage of the TV Record Festival to sing Joy Joyunforgettable moment in the artist’s life.
The song came in fourth in the contest, but became a landmark for Tropicália (learn more about the art movement) that marks the history of MPB.

“Walking against the wind…”
10 years ago, the TV Brazil paid tribute to the then septuagenarian artist. The broadcaster emphasized that the artist born in Bahia also had an influence on life in Rio de Janeiro. Caetano participated in the Program Samba in Gamboagives TV Braziland, told the story of the song It’s morning, which he composed in 1963, and which was recorded by great names in Brazilian music, which surprised him. “Samba was part of my education.”

Five years ago, the TV Brazil also paid tribute to the restless artist who reinvented himself, with experiments and recurring successes.
Relics of Caetano’s music are available in the radio collection of EBCas in Vinyl Club, who highlighted the influences he received, including João Gilberto. The program recalled that the singer visited the National Radio to watch their idols up close in the 1960s.

National Arts Day
If the week begins with Caetano’s 80th birthday, Friday (12) is National Arts Day, a date that is commemorated due to the foundation of the Royal School of Sciences, Arts and Crafts, which was created on August 12, 1816. by a decree of the then Prince Regent of Brazil, Dom João VI, under the inspiration of the French Artistic Mission.
