In his Sunday homily, the auxiliary bishop of Managua, Monsignor Silvio Báez, said that Nicaraguan society is exhausted because of so much aggressiveness and hateful words that hurt and divide.
The reference is directed to the Ortega Murillo regime, who use public spaces to attack the Nicaraguan opposition and the priests of the Catholic Church, such as the occasion in which Daniel Ortega offended the political prisoners of the regime, calling them “sons of bitches.”
“Our society is exhausted because of so much aggressiveness and so many hateful words that hurt and divide. People cry in silence for the cruelty to which they are subjected by those who should watch over their welfare, “said Báez during Sunday mass.
But, according to the auxiliary bishop, Nicaraguans should take advantage of the hard times in the country to learn from them and in this way build a new society. “However, do not be discouraged by those who want to steal the future from the people. The time of oppression and injustice must become the seed of a new society and the right moment to begin to build a culture of encounter, ”said Báez.
The Ortega regime has caused the migration of thousands of Nicaraguans since April 2018 when citizens took to the streets to ask for his resignation. Orteguismo this January 10 will celebrate 15 years in power, entering a fourth consecutive term of Government, after the process without political competition and under the shadow of repression that the voting on November 7 became.
Nicaraguans have left for the United States, Costa Rica and Spain, mainly trying to escape the repression of the regime and preserve their lives. The Ortega Murillo regime has been accused of being responsible for 355 murders since the outbreak of the 2018 protests, according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
“We must now begin to relate in such a way that no one is discarded, offended or humiliated, but that all are needed, respected and valued. Those who sacrifice and fight to build a more humane, respectful and fair social coexistence, can be sure that all their efforts, no matter how small they may seem, will never be lost and will one day flourish “, added the prelate.
Monsignor Álvarez cries out for freedom
In his Sunday homily, the Bishop of Matagalpa, Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, recalled that to exercise freedom, basic conditions are required, alluding to the fact that in Nicaragua there is a police state and a growing repression that does not allow citizens to express themselves freely and without fear.
“Our time is characterized by the aspiration to freedom and liberation, entire people and peoples express this desire for freedom and liberation. The awareness of freedom and the dignity of man, together with the affirmation of the inalienable rights of the person and of peoples, is one of the main characteristics of our time, ”Álvarez stressed.
Álvarez said that among the conditions that freedom requires are those of an economic, political and cultural nature that enable the full exercise of this right.
