Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero received this Friday the new ambassador of the State of Israel in Argentina, Eyal Sela, with whom he spoke about the “excellent state” of bilateral relations and about different cooperation initiatives carried out in recent months, which included visits from high level between the two countries.
At the meeting, Cafiero highlighted the “frank dialogue that characterizes the bond between Argentina and Israel, based on historical ties and common cultural values expressed in the important presence of the Jewish community in our country and its contribution to economic, productive and culture”, as reported by Palacio San Martín in a statement.
The foreign minister also recalled that Argentina was one of the first Latin American countries to establish diplomatic relations with Israel in 1949.
According to official information, Cafiero and Sela agreed on the possibilities of “strengthening” bilateral trade, especially with regard to exploring opportunities for Argentine products in that country, highlighting in this sense the companies in the technology and startups.
Ambassador Sela, who replaces Ambassador Galit Ronen, is a respected professional with a long and qualified career in the Israeli foreign service, the statement said.
Sela has a degree in Political Science and International Relations and a Master’s degree in Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was Ambassador of Israel in Ecuador, before Malta and Slovenia and Chargé d’Affaires in Cairo.
