The Electoral Prosecutor and the Electoral Judge of the Central Department informed the National Police Command of the electoral calendar and recalled the sanctions for offenders for extemporaneous propaganda

The Electoral Delegate Prosecutor of the Central Department, Sandra Ledesma, and the Electoral Judge Modesto Nuñez, sent a note addressed to the General Commissioner, Gilberto Fleitas (Commander of the National Police), whose content consists of informing about the dates of simultaneous internal elections and of general election in 2023.

Thus, they also communicated to the National Police about issues that are related to the verification of extemporaneous propaganda.

The dates were set by TSJE Resolution No. 16/2022, along with the periods within which electoral propaganda can be carried out on public roads, according to article 290 of the Electoral Code.

In this sense, for the simultaneous internal elections, for the election of candidates and authorities of parties, movements, alliances and agreements; the date of the internal elections is December 18, 2022. While the period in which electoral propaganda can be carried out on public roads, will be from November 16, 2022, until December 15, 2022.

Regarding the general elections (for president, vice president, senators, deputies, governors, and members of departmental boards), the general elections will take place on April 30, 2023. While the period in which electoral propaganda can be carried out in public roads, runs from February 27, 2023, to April 27, 2023.

It should be remembered that carrying out electoral propaganda on public roads through any means, such as graffiti, parades, posters, billboards, billboards, etc., outside the indicated deadlines, is absolutely prohibited and may constitute a punishable act, in accordance with articles 324 subsection “a” and 328 of the Electoral Code.

In the same sense, the municipal ordinances of the municipalities of the Central Department prohibit the carrying out of electoral propaganda outside the periods established by law and punish the infraction with a fine.

Therefore, in compliance with the provisions of article 175 of the National Constitution and article 6, numerals 1, 3, 5, 6, 13, 28 and 32 of the Organic Law of the National Police, modified by Law No. 5757/2016 , in case of verifying the execution of electoral propaganda on public roads in an extemporaneous manner, within the Central Department, the National Police must identify the authors and send the records to the Electoral Court of the Central Department, they indicated.
