Minister of Labor for a 40-hour project: “Very soon we will have news (…) it is a longing for the good life”

The Minister of Labor, Jeannette Jara, said that the Government will inform “promptly” about the project that reduces the weekly working day to 40 hours. In addition, he commented that they have held a series of meetings -at technical tables- with employers, workers, study centers and universities.

“Our President has entrusted us with carrying out all the technical, labor, trade union and business dialogues regarding how the 40-hour workday reduction measure is going to be implemented. He will soon inform the public about the matter,” said Minister Jara after a meeting with the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT).

“We carried out, between June 13 and July 14, about 190 technical roundtables where we met with employers, workers and with study centers and universities,” added the head of Labor.

“Surely very soon we will have news. We believe that it is a yearning for the good life,” Jara reiterated.

The head of Labor also addressed the project that declares a holiday on Friday, September 16, an initiative that has already been entered by the Government.

“(The project) was entered and the urgency will be evaluated next Monday, but it is most likely urgent so that it can be ready quickly and is timely and that it also serves for planning,” he said.

“This bill is preceded by an agreement, a draft resolution of the Chamber, so without a doubt we know that we have the will of the deputies to move quickly on this matter,” he added.
