The “austerity measures”, established by the government have been seen by the country as a farce, after an increase of 6% in the general budget of the State and also of the National Assembly of Deputies was made public.
For the lawyer and former deputy, Guillermo “Willy” Cochez “everything about the containment (of spending) is just that, a pure story, because in the middle of the pandemic not only the budget increases but that of the assembly that was at 144 million dollars and rises to 150 million or more than 6%”.
In his opinion, the root of the problem is in many places, but above all in the National Assembly. He also said that the actions of the Comptroller of the Republic is not optimal, since he affirms that Gerardo Solís has repeatedly said that he has only found one case of double salary; however, he has presented two cases before the rector of the University of Panama where there are professors appointed as administrative staff. “And the same must be happening at UDELAS and at the famous Unachi university,” he said.
Regarding the audit carried out by the Comptroller to the Autonomous University of Chiriquí (Unachi), he warned that it will not pass absolutely Well, in his opinion, nobody trusts the comptroller Gerardo Solís and the objective work that he can carry out.
As an example, he said “I know how that is going to end (the Unachi audit), it ends with them throwing a party and buying a $30 cake; then they tell the rector to pay for the $30 cake and that’s it, that’s what’s going to end”.
“We do not have a comptroller, we do not have a transparent assembly, we do not have an executive that commands,” he continued, recalling that in the case of the social outbreak that the country experienced last July, President Cortizo had to resort to the Catholic Church to to be able to tell the population that they admit to dialogue with the businessmen and producers and they have not yet accepted them because there is no figure of command that generates trust.
“We are on the way to anarchy,” he concluded.
