The Haitian National Police (PNH) announced on Wednesday (08.03.2022) the death of “Kòlèg”, whom they identified as one of the most powerful bosses of the 400 Mawozo armed gang, who kidnapped 16 American missionaries and a Canadian in October 2021.
The head of the gang died during the bloody clashes with the Police in Duval Wòch, in the Croix-des-Bouquets district, authorities said.
The Police assured that Kòlèg was an influential member of the 400 Mawozo gang and that he ran the area known as Nan Remy in the commune of Croix-des-Bouquets, located about ten kilometers from Port-au-Prince.
During these exchanges with the National Police, at least three alleged bandits died, among them the assistant of “Kòlèg”, “Ronald”, and firearms were seized.
According to data from the United Nations, at least 234 people died between July 8 and 12 in Cité Soleil, a marginal neighborhood of the Haitian capital where clashes for control of the territory took place that also left dozens injured and thousands of people trapped. without drinking water, food or medical attention.
Haitian armed gangs have taken control of large territories, mainly in Port-au-Prince, scene of frequent confrontations between these for displacing one another.
