The Ministry of the Interior presented this Wednesday various figures regarding the actions of the portfolio during 2021, among the numbers presented those related to the fight against drug trafficking stand out, they show that during the past year the authorities seized more than five tons of different drugs in all the country.
The presentation of the figures took place within the framework of the presentation of the leadership of the ministry before the Parliament for your Accountability and Budget Execution Balance.
According to the document presented by the portfolio, to which Diario La R had access, marijuana was the drug that was seized the most in 2021, with a total of 2,152 kilograms. In second place was cocaine, with 2,075 kilos, and the podium was closed by base paste, with 1,195 kilos.

By overwhelming difference, Rivera was the department where the most marijuana was seized, with 77% of the total (1,671 kilos). In second place, and with more than 10 times less, was Montevideo, with 152 kilos.
Something similar to what happened with marijuana in Montevideo, but with cocaine. In the capital, 1,288 kilos were seized, representing more than 62% of the total. In Canelones, for its part, almost 680 kilos were seized, this means that almost 95% of the cocaine seized during the country year came from operations in the metropolitan area.
On the other hand, as far as base paste is concerned, the department of San José was the reference with almost 583 kilos, not far behind was Artigas, where 411 kilos were confiscated.
According to the document, the Ministry of the Interior broke several records related to police actions in the last year. For example, during 2021 the authorities closed 1,152 drug outlets, 4,673 people were investigated, of whom 1,465 were convicted, 17,490,368 pesos and 742,792 dollars were confiscated. All these figures, in addition to the amount of base paste seized, were the highest ever recorded.
