MIAMI, United States.- Marc Rosen, entertainment president of Authentic Brands Group (ABG), a company that manages the estate and image rights of Marilyn Monroe, came out in defense of actress Ana de Armas in the face of criticism from viewers who consider that the Cuban accent is not close enough to Monroe’s.
De Armas, who puts himself in the shoes of the great Hollywood icon in Blonde, a biopic that will premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, from August 31 to September 10, and will arrive on Netflix on September 28, “It was a great choice,” Rosen said.
“Marilyn Monroe is a Hollywood and pop culture icon who transcends generations and history, and any actor who steps into that role knows how difficult it is to live up to. Based on the trailer, I think Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity and vulnerability. We can’t wait to see the finished movie.” added the president of ABC.
Blonde, written and directed by Andrew Dominik and of which only small clips and the trailer have been seen, is based on the famous homonymous novel by Joyce Carol Oates, and includes some of Marilyn’s most emblematic moments and looks.
In the face of criticism on the internet, another celebrity has come out in defense of Ana de Armas. Brad Pitt, whose company Plan B has co-produced the film, told Entertainment Tonight on Monday that “it wasn’t until we found Ana that we were able to go all the way” on a project he said had been in the works for 10 years. “She is phenomenal” in the film, added the actor and producer.
Regarding the accent, the Cuban once said: “It took me nine months of training to get the accent right. It was very exhausting, my brain was fried.”
