OHLA will collaborate with the Mexican authorities in the investigation against Peña Nieto

The Spanish construction company OHLA He said this Wednesday that he will collaborate with the Mexican authorities to clarify issues related to investigations against former President Enrique Peña Nietospecifying that OHL Mexico is no longer part of the group.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported that it is investigating former President Enrique Peña Nieto for alleged money laundering, electoral crimes and illicit enrichment. The FGR detailed that a first case includes various complaints in which the company OHL (currently called Aleatica) is involved, both in crimes of an electoral nature, as well as patrimonial.

“The facts referred to date back to 2017 and to OHL Mexico. In that year, the sale of OHL Mexico and the entire concessions division (…) to Aleática was announced,” the Spanish company explained in a message via email. .

“The OHLA Group will collaborate with the Mexican authorities as much as necessary to clarify any disputed fact,” he added.

The FGR indicated that based on complaints filed by the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), in charge of Pablo Gómez, is integrating an investigation folder against EPN for money laundering and possible illegal international transfers. He mentioned that he obtains expert tax and tax reports, while various essential evidence is obtained for the prosecution of the case.

The investigations at the federal level against OHL, now Aleatica, on alleged corruption date back to 2019. In that year, the then head of the FIU, Santiago Nieto, declared that the alleged cases of corruption of OHL, raised in the Peña Nieto’s six-year term and while the head of Communications and Transport was Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, who died in 2020.

The relationship between Peña and OHL dates back to when the PRI was governor of the State of Mexico (2005-2011). At that time, the company of Spanish origin, obtained millionaire contracts for infrastructure, such as the construction of the Bicentennial Viaduct which would have been carried out with cost overruns, according to leaked audios, in 2015, where senior officials of the company were heard conspiring, at that time.

The contracts signed in the government of Peña Nieto in Edomex and the construction company remain, until today, secret.
