Human Milk Bank provides important benefits for premature babies

From Monday, August 1 to Sunday, August 7, Breastfeeding Week is held, under the slogan “Let’s Promote Breastfeeding: Supporting and Educating.”

Dora Cárdenas, an official of the Social Security Fund (CSS), indicated that the Hospital Irma de Lourdes Tzanetatos is not only the national benchmark for neonatology service, with 25 to 30 deliveries per day, but it is also the Headquarters of the Human Milk Bank (BLH), of the CSS.

Cárdenas stressed that the bank receives two types of milk, that of mothers who have their newborn hospitalized, and also donors.

He explained that this donation of human milk requires a pasteurization process to determine if the milk is suitable for a newborn.
