Family and friends of Santiago Maldonado held this Monday an act in Plaza de Mayo to reiterate the request for “justice and truth”five years after the disappearance and death of the young craftsman.

The concentration began at 5:00 p.m. with musical performances by bands such as Las Manos de Filippi, La Delio Valdez, and La Chilinga, while the central act began at 6:00 p.m.

Representatives of social movements and political organizations such as the Polo Obrero, Barrios de pie, Nuevo MAS, La Poderosa, the Left Front, Correpiamong others, who waved their flags to the rhythm of the drums of La Chilinga, while people continued to approach the area to accompany the demand for justice.

In that sense, the head of Correpi, María del Carmen Verdú, stated in statements to Télam that “This call by the Maldonado family has managed to bring together all human rights and anti-repressive organizations and agencies, from all sectors, regardless of the alignments we may have on other issues; and that is what gives the pattern that it is a claim that cuts across society”.

For his part, Sergio Maldonado, brother of Santiago, assured in statements to Télam that the case investigating the death of the young man, found lifeless after having been missing for 78 days after a repression carried out in August 2017 in Chubut by agents of the Gendarmerie, “is paralyzed in the Supreme Court since March 2020”.

About, Verdú indicated that “it is an even more complex situation than if they directly rejected all the proposals of the complaint, because in that case one can advance along other lanes but that way they keep you in a situation of uncertainty.”

While, officials and leaders of the Frente de Todos (FdT) reiterated on social networks the request for “truth and justice” by Santiago Maldonado.

The Minister of Women, Gender and Diversity, Elizabeth Gómez Alcorta, called to fight “for the truth and against impunity” on his Twitter account, and the Minister of Habitat, Jorge Ferraresi, stated: “Impunity cannot take place in democratic Argentina.”

The Buenos Aires legislator and daughter of the disappeared, Victoria Montenegro, accompanied the request for justice through her Twitter account, as well as the political organization La Cámpora, and the general secretary of CTA, Eduardo López.

The call was accompanied by Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, Founding Line, Relatives of Disappeared and Detained for Political Reasons, HIJOS Capital, Permanent Assembly for Human Rights (APDH), Argentine League for Human Rights (LADH), Center of Legal and Social Studies (CELS).

Likewise, the Central de Trabajadores Argentinos (CTA) and ATE Capital joined the claim, which through their social networks referred to the “5 years of impunity” and accompanied the relatives’ request for justice.
