Dajabón. The president of the People’s Force, Leonel Fernández, said that any process of illegal mass migration begins at the border and that, therefore, that is where the defense of national sovereignty must begin.
The former president said that he agrees with the reinforcement of the presence of members of the Armed Forces on the border, however he understands that their living conditions must also be improved.
“The defense of our sovereignty, the defense of the Dominican territorial integrity, the defense of self-determination, begins with the border,” he stressed.
“We understand that for our members of the Armed Forces to be able to carry out effective work here on the border, it is necessary for the government to grant them some type of incentive, that is, to improve salaries, or to improve their purchasing power, their purchasing power”, Fernández declared.
He went on to detail that the members of the Armed Forces. AA. “They have to pay rent, they have to pay for breakfast, lunch, dinner; and that cannot come out of his salary, that must be provided in a specific way and increasing those allowances for those soldiers who spend their time here, to protect us from an illegal mass migration or the theft of cattle, as I know that it has become in a serious problem in these border provinces ”.
When participating in a meeting with the press in the senatorial office of the province of Dajabón, together with senator David Sosa, Leonel Fernández expressed that the call he makes from the People’s Force is to reinforce the presence of the military forces, but also to improve the living conditions of these people so that they can carry out their defense work effectively.
Fernández is in the northern region delivering food rations to homes for the elderly, churches, mothers’ clubs and community associations, for them to deliver.
