A giant tortoise blocks train traffic for several hours in England

“Due to the presence of animals on the tracks on (East) Harling Road, the line is blocked and trains passing through this station may be canceled or delayed,” Greater Anglia tweeted.

“There is a giant tortoise on the line heading to Norwich. She is still alive, but injured,” a passenger, Diane Akers, wrote on Twitter, sharing a photo of the turtle with its shell open.

The tortoise had entered the line between Cambridge and Norwich, in the east of England.

“The big injured turtle has been removed and all lines are now reopened,” Greater Anglia said around 2:30 p.m. local time, indicating traffic would slowly return to normal.

The animal “was taken to a specialized team for treatment and we have been informed that it will fully recover,” said the railway company.
