The Vice President of the Nation, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, held a meeting on Monday with the designated Minister of Economy, Production and Agriculture, Sergio Massa, in her office in the Chamber of Senators.
This was officially reported by the spokesmen for the head of the upper house, who posted a photo with the still national deputy through his Twitter account.
In that sense, from the vice president’s press office they indicated that the meeting was held this afternoon and that the formal meetings between Massa and Fernández de Kirchner “are more than usual” and that the meeting “is nothing new.”
They also noted that there was talk “Of the challenges that Argentina has going forward and of the management plans of the future minister”.
Massa will assume this Wednesday as minister of the Government of Alberto Fernández, while tomorrow he will make his resignation official from the Chamber of Deputies that he also presided over.
The ownership of the Lower House will remain for Cecilia Moreau, from Buenos Aires, while Massa’s bench will be occupied by Juan Marino.
During the day this Monday, the future minister announced who his collaborators will be in the economic area.
In this sense, he announced the continuity of Raúl Rigo as Secretary of the Treasury and Eduardo Setti as Secretary of Finance, and the arrival of Daniel Marx, as adviser on debt issues.
Massa, through his Twitter account, reported during the morning the appointment of Rigo, who “He will be accompanied by Jorge Domper as Undersecretary of Budget and Claudia Balestrini in charge of the Undersecretary of Public Revenue”.
Rigo, an expert in public accounts, will thus return to that function just 27 days after submitting his resignation from the role he already fulfilled in the Ministry of Finance when the ministry was led by Martín Guzmán.
Almost a month later, Massa made the decision to reincorporate this key man in the budget design of the governments of Néstor and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who continued in office with the macrismo until the former Minister of Economy Nicolás Dujovne decided to displace him.
However, with the replacement of the Government in 2019 and the arrival of Martín Guzmán at the Palacio de Hacienda, Rigo returned to Economy.
In the afternoon, and through the same social network, Massa reported that Eduardo Setti will remain as Secretary of Finance, a position he has been holding since the beginning of July when Cecilia Batakis took office, “and Leandro will accompany him on the team Toriano, Natalia Capurso and Celeste Izquierdo”.
In addition, the vice president of the Central Bank will be Lisandro Cleri and Leonardo Madcur returns to the public function as Chief of Advisors to the Ministry.
Madcur joined the Ministry of Economy at the hands of the Secretary of Finance, Guillermo Nielsen, as his deputy, in May 2002, when the country was going through a social, institutional and economic crisis.
The designated head of advisers, at that time, did not personally know the Minister of Economy, Roberto Lavagna, but from there he gained recognition.
Also, Massa announced that Daniel Marx will integrate “the committee for the development of the capital market and follow-up of the public debt.”
Marx was Secretary of Finance during the Government of Fernando de la Rúa, and between 1989 and 1993 he was chief negotiator of the Argentine foreign debt, being in charge of its restructuring.
“The objective is to order and take care of public accounts”, Massa expressed when announcing the first names of those who will accompany him in the economic team.
