In his first official match with Bayern Munich, Sadio Mané scored a goal and added the German Super Cup title, being part of the offensive demonstration of the Bavarians (5-3) against Leipzig, this Saturday on the pitch of the Red Bull Arena.
Bayern manager, Julian Nagelsmann, had declared on Friday that he hoped his players would send a message to the rest of the teams in the Super Cup and against RB Leipzig, one of the candidates to end Bayern’s decade of undisputed dominance in the Bundesliga (ten consecutive titles).
Before the break, Manuel Neuer’s teammates had already fulfilled their coach’s wish, with a clear superiority over the pupils of Domenico Tedesco.
The Bavarian attack, with Jamal Musiala and Sadio Mané escorted by Thomas Müller and Serge Gnabry, offered a recital in the first 45 minutes, with a goal every quarter of an hour; Jamal Musiala (15), Mané (31) and Benjamin Pavard (45).
For Mané it was his first goal in his first official match with his new team, after six years defending the Liverpool elastic.
Julian Nagelsmann seems to have found a solution for now to alleviate the departure of Robert Lewandowski, authentic scoring machine for Bayern for eight seasons. This Saturday it was Mané who played more up front, with Musiala somewhat further back.
The Senegalese thought in two moments to have signed a doubletbut in each of them he was offside.
Musiala, with his dribbles and his accelerationsposed a constant danger to the Leipzig defence.
The very French defense of Bayern, with Lucas Hernandez, Dayot Upamecano and Benjamin Pavard did not give Leipzig’s forward an option in the first act, before suffering more around the locker room.
The only must for Bayern, the set pieces, thanks to which Leipzig was able to add a little emotion to the game, with a header from André Silva to the post and a goal from Marcel Halstenberg just before the hour mark. But Gnabry, with Bayern’s fourth goal (66), returned the three goal difference.
Christopher Nkunku hardly had any chances to prove the merits of his Bundesliga best player accolade last season. He scored the goal of hope from a penalty (4-2, 77) but it was too late for Leipzig, despite the goal by the Spanish international Dani Olmo (89), which relaunched the suspense for a short time, until Leroy Sané sentenced the end of a long added time (90+8).
Thus Bayern won a first title of the season, a tenth German Super Cup in its history.
The Bundesliga begins in six days, with a duel between Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt, Europa League champion last season.
