After the death of two of the 11 hostages who remained in the hands of the ELN in the department of Arauca, the Ombudsman, Carlos Camargo, He asked that guerrilla to guarantee the life and integrity of the other nine people that he keeps in his power.
On July 29, the authorities confirmed the discovery of the bodies of Vladimir Herrera, ex-combatant of the extinct FARC and in the process of reincorporation in Arauca, just like that of Jaime Leon Ramirez.
The victims were part of the group of 11 people who were kidnapped on Wednesday, July 13 in the village of Alto Purare in the municipality of Tame (Arauca).

“We stand in solidarity with their families to whom our team in the territory has been providing support. We have done the same with the communities that this year, faced with the resurgence of actions by illegal armed groups, have been victims of forced displacement and confinement in their territories”, said.
He pointed out that since The Ombudsman’s Office seeks to guarantee the release of the hostages who remain in the power of that guerrilla.
“We keep our humanitarian channels open to allow the prompt return of citizens with their families,” assured.

This has been one of the most difficult years for public order in the department of Arauca, where the violence has intensified.
That entity specified that from January 1 to July 30, 242 homicides have been reported as a result of the armed conflict, in addition to 11,631 displaced persons.
In Arauca they are still kidnapped 13 people, three soldiers, a policeman and nine civilians.
Due to the situation that arises in that department, the regional Arauca and the delegate for Social Conflict, carry out a mission to verify rights in nine villages in the region of the municipalities of Tame and Arauquita to verify the effects on the civilian population.
