The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) launched the Brain Code program. It seeks to promote actions at all levels of care to prevent, diagnose and improve the response time of medical personnel to reduce disability and mortality from cerebrovascular events (CVD).

Célida Duque Molina, Director of Medical Benefits, indicated that at least one in four people will have a stroke in their life; however, she explained, risk factors can be modified.

In an act in the auditorium of the Hospital de Especialidades del Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI, he pointed out that these events are the second cause of death in the world and the first cause of disability in adults, while 50 percent of survivors are left with some sequel .

The timely diagnostic stage will be carried out in medical units, both second and third level. This valuable time, between clinical diagnosis, tomography confirmation and treatment, will be essential for our patients to recover and survive.he claimed.

Duque explained that through the IMSS Comprehensive Care Protocol, it is possible to work on the prevention and control of risk factors and in multidisciplinary work, timely diagnosis.

Through this standardization of the Brain Code program, fibrinolytic therapy can be administered, which must be carried out in less than 4.5 hourshe added.

With Brain Code it is intended to reduce mortality due to CVD, as well as disability and reduce subsequent states of dementia, through timely care.
