Pope Francis assured that he does not rule out the possibility of resigning in the face of growing difficulties in one of his knees. In this sense, the pontiff expressed that “changing the pope would not be a catastrophe.”
The statements were made during his trip to Canada, in which he has had to move in a wheelchair, since he can hardly stand.
“It is not a catastrophe: you can change the pope and it is not a problem,” said the Argentine pontiff. For now “I haven’t thought about that possibility, but that doesn’t mean that the day after tomorrow I won’t think about it,” he added.

The pontiff added that it would not be strange to follow the example of his predecessor, Benedict XVI, 95, who resigned in 2013 from the throne of Peter because he “lacked the strength” to continue governing the ancient institution.
