Nicolás Sossa, the Colombian who toured all of South America by bicycle

A real feat is doing a cyclist named Nicolas Andres Sossa Gonzalezwho in the company of his father took their bicycles and began a journey from Soacha to Argentinatouring almost all the countries of South America in almost two continuous months.

The professional in health sciences and his father left from the May 27 on an adventure on their ‘horses of steel’traveling unknown roads for themguiding himself by means of a map on his cell phone and the indications of the people who were in his path. In their backpacks the only thing they carried was clothes and some food to pass the hunger on the roads of South America.

training between 100 and 130 kilometers a day, the athlete wanted to fulfill the dream of his father who had long wanted to go to Argentinian by bike.

Nicholas Andres Gonzales, talked with Antenna 2 and commented that “my main motivation is my father, he was the intellectual and motivational actor to do this, his main dream was to get to know Argentinait occurred to him to meet him on a bicycle and I simply made the decision to accompany him and fulfill this dream with him”.

During these two months they have had to travel thousands of kilometers, “in Colombia we traveled approximately 946 kilometers arriving at Rumichaca International Bridge in 8 dayswe entered Ecuador and toured 877 kilometers in 7 days, we reach Peru and there we traveled at least 2,000 kilometers in 20 dayss, then we enter Chile and traveled approximately 750 kilometers in 7 days, in Argentina we traveled 1600 kilometers to reach the center of Buenos Aires”, he commented.

However, in the midst of the different roads, the climates and the distances between towns have played tricks on him, “passing Rio Bamba in Ecuador we climb a paramo more or less 4200 meters at sea level, in which when we arrived it rained with hail and on the descent there was nothing, it was the hardest thing we went through, we were literally frozen. Thank God we found some indigenous Ecuadorians who saw us in need and we asked for lodging.they gave us help, they gave us sleep and food, this saved our lives because of the impressive cold we couldn’t even talk”.

They have also had to resort to other means of transport to get closer to a nearby town, since fatigue, distance and the time of day did not allow them to continue, having only to take twice a bus to get to a town to recover energy and continue the trip.

Likewise, the expense during this trip has been quite a lot, according to the athlete, “so far we have spent 13 million pesosan average of 200 thousand pesos a day consisting of breakfast, lunch and dinner for both of us, hydration and a snack as such”.

For this reason, in their plans they had an enterprise that would help them bear the expenses in case it was necessary and through some handcuffs they managed to earn some money, “We brought 300 bracelets to sell or look for an exchange, when we met an Argentine we gave them a bracelet or two and they gave us money, a piece of fruit or a sweet”.

“Many people when we stopped asked us what a handle was and we explained it to them and thus we gathered some resources to complete this journey” revealed Gonzalez.

Finishing his journey in these last days in Buenos Aires, Argentina, The adventurers will enjoy a few days in this country and will return to Colombia by plane or by bus depending on the remaining budget.
